Country Club Patio Home
A refined primary suite transformation—where thoughtful planning and tailored details bring warmth, character, and cohesion to a previously overlooked space.
The Direction
The Vision
The goal was to elevate the primary suite to match the sophistication of the rest of the home—creating a space that felt cohesive, intentional, and quietly luxurious. The design needed to complement the home's Santa Barbara–inspired aesthetic while introducing warmth, function, and a stronger sense of identity. The vision centered on balance: refined but comfortable, architectural yet inviting—allowing the suite to feel like a natural extension of the home's overall design story.

How It Came Together
The Process
We began by reworking the bathroom layout entirely, prioritizing both flow and functionality. The new design introduced a double-entrance shower positioned behind a floating tub—creating a spa-like focal point while improving movement throughout the space. Additional cabinetry and storage were thoughtfully integrated, significantly increasing usability without overwhelming the design. In the bedroom, the existing architectural challenge became an opportunity. The two smaller closets and central niche were unified through a custom millwork fireplace wall—transforming what once felt fragmented into a cohesive and visually striking feature. This new focal point not only anchors the room, but also softens the presence of the closet doors, allowing them to feel intentional rather than secondary. As with all of our projects, careful coordination with skilled trades and trusted vendors ensured that each element—from millwork detailing to installation—was executed with precision.

Transformation Story
A refined primary suite transformation
A refined primary suite transformation—where thoughtful planning and tailored details bring warmth, character, and cohesion to a previously overlooked space. Designed for a single, retired corporate executive, this home already carried a strong architectural identity—Spanish-influenced with neutral walls, rich wood tones, and saltillo tile flooring. While the main living areas beautifully supported her extensive art collection, the primary bedroom and bathroom felt underdeveloped in comparison.
01 — The Starting Point
Where the suite began
The existing layout lacked both function and visual continuity. In the bedroom, two small closets flanked an awkward niche, creating a disjointed focal point. The bathroom, while serviceable, did not maximize space or reflect the character found throughout the rest of the home.

04 — The Outcome
A retreat connected to the rest of the home
The finished suite feels complete, elevated, and seamlessly connected to the rest of the home. What was once an underdeveloped area now reflects the same level of character and refinement found throughout the main living spaces. Through thoughtful layout changes and tailored design details, the primary suite has been transformed into a functional, beautifully composed retreat—one that supports both daily routines and a more relaxed, personal pace of living.
