Piedmont Pines Residence
A California casual home reimagined after loss—where thoughtful design restores comfort, balance, and a renewed sense of place.
The Direction
The Vision
The goal was twofold: to restore a sense of comfort and familiarity, while thoughtfully improving the way the home functioned. Aesthetic direction required a careful balance—blending his preference for mid-century design with her love of French country. The result would lean into a California casual, transitional feel—warm, livable, and cohesive—where both styles could coexist seamlessly without competing.

How It Came Together
The Process
With the home taken down to its core, we were able to reimagine the floorplan in a more meaningful way. Ceiling lines were opened to introduce vaults and beams, creating a greater sense of volume and light throughout the main living areas. In the primary suite, we maximized previously underutilized space to create a larger, more functional walk-in closet—improving both storage and flow. In the kitchen, a key structural limitation was addressed: the fireplace, which once protruded into the kitchen from the living room, was scaled back on the rear side. This allowed for an expanded run of upper and lower cabinetry, dramatically improving both layout and usability. Throughout the home, every adjustment was made with intention—refining how the space lives day to day, while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic that bridges both clients' styles. Given the distance, additional planning and communication were essential to ensure that every detail translated seamlessly from concept to completion.

The Outcome
The Finished Space
The finished home is a reflection of resilience—calm, comfortable, and thoughtfully composed. What began as a devastating loss has been transformed into a space that not only restores what was, but improves upon it in meaningful ways. While the timeline extended due to California's strict permitting and reconstruction requirements, the result was well worth the patience. The home now offers a peaceful, beautifully balanced environment—designed to support the next chapter of everyday life.
