Harber Meadows Residence
A once compartmentalized, traditional home thoughtfully reimagined into a light-filled, functional gathering space designed for modern living.
The Challenge
The Starting Point
Built in the 1990s, this home carried all the hallmarks of its time—defined rooms, builder-grade finishes, and a kitchen that felt both closed off and underutilized. The existing layout separated the kitchen from the main living spaces, limiting both function and flow. Dark cabinetry and dated materials further weighed down the space, leaving it feeling smaller and less inviting than it could be.
The Direction
The Vision
Our goal was to create a more open, connected environment that reflected the way the clients truly live—casual, welcoming, and centered around the kitchen. While the architecture leaned traditional, the aesthetic direction moved toward a clean, transitional balance: lighter, brighter, and quietly modern without losing warmth. The kitchen would become the heart of the home—both visually and functionally.

How It Came Together
The Process
We began by reworking the footprint, opening the wall between the kitchen and living space to immediately transform the flow and sightlines. By combining the former kitchen and breakfast room, we were able to design a more expansive layout anchored by a generous chef's island—creating both a focal point and a true gathering space. From there, every layer was intentionally refined. Cabinetry was reimagined with a fresh paint finish, paired with white quartz countertops to reflect light and brighten the entire room. Strategic lighting was introduced to elevate both function and atmosphere, while new appliances and a dedicated coffee bar added everyday luxury and convenience. Our team worked closely with trusted trades and vendors to ensure each detail was executed seamlessly—from layout adjustments to final installation.

Transformation Story
Four moments that changed how the home lives
Rather than a cosmetic refresh, this remodel reshaped the experience of the house. Each move opened sightlines, pulled in more light, and shifted the focus back to gathering around the kitchen.
Room 01
The living room stopped feeling sealed off
Heavy wall color and a segmented arrangement kept the original room feeling enclosed. The after view feels calmer and more expansive, with the architecture supporting the furnishings instead of competing with them.
Room 02
The threshold became a clear sightline
Where the old layout chopped the house into separate zones, the reworked opening now draws the eye directly through to the kitchen. It is a small moment in plan, but a huge change in how the home flows.
Room 03
A dated kitchen became the center of gravity
Dark wood cabinetry and an enclosed footprint once made the kitchen feel secondary. The new composition replaces that heaviness with bright cabinetry, layered light, and an island that naturally pulls everyone in.
Room 04
The peninsula gave way to a true gathering island
The original kitchen edge acted like a boundary. In the finished layout, the island becomes a centerpiece that improves prep space, circulation, and the social energy of the room all at once.
The Payoff
What makes the project feel so dramatic is not one single finish choice, but how every architectural and visual decision now works together. The home finally reads as one connected, welcoming environment.
The Outcome
The Finished Space
The transformation is so complete that it often surprises—even to the point where before-and-after photos feel almost unbelievable. What was once dark, segmented, and dated is now open, luminous, and designed for real life. The kitchen has become the true centerpiece of the home—an inviting space where form and function finally align.
