Hardwater Cocktail Room
A moody, art-forward cocktail lounge layered with texture, light, and detail—designed to feel both transportive and deeply inviting.
The Direction
The Vision
From the outset, the goal was to create a modern-day speakeasy—masculine, layered, and quietly dramatic. The clients envisioned a space that felt like a "home away from home," where guests could settle in, linger, and return often. Lighting would play a central role, with a glowing, backlit bar designed to highlight the natural sparkle of the spirits and anchor the room visually. Surrounding that, the atmosphere would be rich with texture, art, and collected detail—inviting, but elevated.

How It Came Together
The Process
We began by intentionally darkening the envelope—painting walls and ceilings in deep tones to create an immediate sense of intimacy and contrast. From there, the space was built outward in layers. Seating was thoughtfully composed to encourage both conversation and comfort: sofas, lounge chairs, and banquettes upholstered in a mix of masculine fabrics, grounded by area rugs with an antique, collected feel. Custom pillows in Italian velvets and wool added depth and softness, balancing the moody palette. Lighting became both functional and sculptural. Fixtures featuring a subtle "dripping water" motif were introduced throughout, reinforcing the cocktail narrative while adding movement and sparkle. At the bar, backlighting was carefully designed to illuminate the bottles—turning the spirits themselves into a dynamic visual feature. Wall treatments played an equally important role. Layered wallpapers—including Timorous Beasties and Cole & Son—along with a striking black-and-white tree mural, established a richly patterned backdrop that felt both artistic and immersive. Finally, the space was finished with an extensive collection of art and accessories, each piece intentionally selected and placed to elevate the environment beyond a typical commercial interior.

The Outcome
The Finished Space
What was once a raw concrete shell is now a layered, glowing retreat—intimate, atmospheric, and unmistakably distinctive. Hardwater Cocktail Room feels less like a bar and more like a curated living room—one designed for connection, conversation, and the ritual of a well-made drink.

Every Home Tells a Story
Our goal with every project is simple: create a space that feels like you, supports the way you live, and welcomes you home at the end of the day. Seeing clients settle into a space that finally feels right will always be the best part of this work.
“A destination where guests want to settle in, linger, and come back often.”
